Sort-of Giacometti

Trees, Heads, Molds was the title of Evan Holloway's recent show at Xavier Lufkens in Los Angeles. The Heads and the  Molds didn't interest me much. The pieces shown here belonged to the Trees series. And the first thing about them that had to be noticed was of course the full-frontal paraphrasing of Giacometti. In this case it would be Giacometti spray-painted (or otherwise tinted) by the innovative Evan Holloway in rainbow Day-Glo. This group I did find kind of fascinating, I admit, as it teetered between appropriation and the L.A. version of originality.
