Their names might still be known to those with some stake (academic or sentimental) in extinct periods of the pop-cultural past. But not to anybody else. These women lived and worked just slightly too early, were in their prime just before the period when idiosyncratic allurements of voice and gesture could be mechanically reproduced and preserved (in facsimile) for posterity.
